Byrd Street - March 1, 2007
On March 1, 2007, volunteers from Cherokee and Barton VFDs were dispatched to this structure on Byrd Street. The house was mostly involved upon arrival of the first engine. The structure was a total loss.
Auburn Mansion - March 3, 2007
The Colbert County Commission purchased several thousand acres of land to develop the Barton Riverfront Industrial Park. The Auburn Mansion was located on this land. Built in the 1930s, this plantation style home was occupied by many families over the years, mostly farmers. However, within the last 15 years, no one has lived in the home and vandals had taken over. On March 3, 2007, firefighters from Barton VFD and Cherokee VFD came together to burn the structure. This fire got HOT and it got hot FAST!
New Tower Erection - April thru May 2007
After having problems with our current repeater system on Mt Mills Road, we decided to place a repeater on top of Sand Mountain. This move has greatly improved our communications. Most of the work on the new tower site was done by our own members. Thanks to everyone who helped, to Sheffield Utilities for the help they provided, and to the Cherokee Gas & Water Department for use of their equipment!
Sally Burns Wildfire - October 15 and 17, 2007
A roaring wildfire scorched over 300 acres of land in the Maud/Mynot area off Sally Burns Road. These pictures were sent to us by an anonymous photographer. Thanks!
