Air Evac Crash kills 3
A tragic event took place Sunday morning. At 3:06am on December 30, 2007, Air Evac 16 crashed while helping search for a missing hunter. The chopper had located the hunter and was hovering over him with a spotlight to help ground crews get to the person. While hovering, an unknown event occurred that caused the chopper to spin out of control and crash to the ground, immediately erupting into flames. All 3 crew members died instantly.
The crew members were Michael Baker (Pilot), Tiffany Miles (Nurse), and Allan Bragwell (Paramedic). Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the crew members. These brave people were once Angels in the Sky here on Earth, but are now Angels in Heaven, and watching down over us always.
Memorial Funds are setup at the following North Alabama banks: Bank Independent, Redstone Federal Credit Union, Listerhill Credit Union, and Valley Federal Credit Union. Please make a donation today! All of the money will be split between all 3 families.
The NTSB and FAA are investigating the accident.

Roaring Wildfire Scorches 300 acres
A roaring wildfire scorched over 300 acres of land over 2 days. Firefighters responded to the fire on Monday afternoon and worked for approximately 12 hours to contain the fire. They were called back on Wednesday afternoon after the fire jumped fire lanes. Another 8-10 hours was put in on Wednesday.
A special thanks to the National Park Service - Fire Division, Alabama Forestry Commission, Riverton Rose Trail VFD, TVA Police, Colbert County Sheriff's Office, and Cherokee Rescue Squad for the assistance provided during this fire. We would also like to thank Janie Pounders and her staff at JJ's Restaurant for helping feed over 50 hamburgers during the event.

New Radio Tower Erected
A long awaited task is finally getting accomplished this month.
The members of the CVFF are in the process of erecting a new tower site on top of Sand Mountain, near downtown Cherokee.
The new site will give a much greater area of communications, and also allowed us to have complete control over the site itself. Our current tower is on land owned by the phone company and the site is frequented by party-goers and vandals.
The new tower will have a 7kw Generator with automatic switch over, meaning we should never lose communications during a power outage.
